Climate change is a global concern with real-world impacts. As the climate warms, oceans absorb additional heat. This warmer ocean temperature causes thermal expansion, which increases ocean volumes. Although predictions vary, there is little doubt that sea level rise will eventually displace people in coastal communities. Carbon dioxide and methane make up more than 90% of the gases in a landfill. Methane is up to 21 times more harmful to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. Collecting and controlling these gases for a beneficial use prevents the unmitigated release of tons of greenhouse gases.
